It's been a while since my last update. I did this as warm up this morning, forgot to record the process... I need to make it a habbit when I speed paint.

It takes so much brain power while painting, sometimes I have no idea how I finish anything! I like seeing how people paint and how they arrive at the result.

Originally I was going to draw TTC from imagination, but somehow half way it turns into this. hum...

I think this one is my fav. out of the speed painting so far... need more clarification, and alot more work to have it tell the story better. I will try to come back and work on this abit more in the later time. Cheers!

Another speed sketch practice... recorded with 1 shot per every 15 frames...looks very choppy, not a good idea. This is inspired by Miyazaki's creature design, at least that was in the back of my head when this "thing" start to take form.

I tried to paint with color and value right away, break away from how I usually star. (on those time restricted drawings, able to visualize quickly is key, so I thought I give it a try :P)

I think only from trying out new stuff that I can somehow hoping that I will improve. Besides, nothing really just magically works forever anyways, when I find that magic work process, it'll be a happy day.

How to train your dragon

I went to watch How to train your dragon last night.
It's a pretty good movie, I like it. One bone I have to pick (if I really have to pick out one), is that the movie played up the "cuteness" factor into the main dragon design, that you can't help to just adore him as a pet. Not only that he is cute, he is also the special one with power that no one else has! At the same time, he is very cool looking. There is just NO WAY that anybody could possibly dislike him. The whole design set him up almost too perfect. If he is anything but all of the above, I don't think it'll play out as well, the design need to make the audience go "AWWWWW~~~~". I mean it just won't work if he looks like any of the other more evil looking, uglier dragons.
Admit it, the design is perfect to make into any type of toy kids will hug.

The main dragon reminds me so much of Disney's Stitch, witch is another extremly cute monster creature I abslutly love.
They both have the same basic design, big eyes that covers more then half of the face in proportion, with no real jaw line and lots of not so sharp teeth. Stitch can pop up his alien parts, and the dragon can pop out his teeth at well. Personality, pretty much the same at large as well.
Nevertheless, it's still a good film, I like it. I am not sure if I like it as much as lilo and stitch, I will have to watch it a couple more time to decide.

If I can choose... I think I will go with the dragon as a pet....it's just soooooo much cooler to have a dragon as a pet. Tho, if I could ride the space ship, it would be really cool too. Might gets alittle too cold and dangerous flying on the back of the dragon, and my ear drum will burst if he accidentally fly too high.
Come to think of it, it's a tough choice...

oh, one more thing, as far as the dragon projectile weapon of mass destruction goes, I really think it's an alien dragon too, it's blue lighting lazer looking thingy!! I bet he is probably from the same planet where stitch came from, that explain why they are both so extremely adorable, and both so alone in this planet call earth!

This is done a little while back, I am trying to space it out, so I post more often, trying for at least one per day.

I guess I got the wire, woman and panda part...but again, she could easily be a little boy... lol

This is not done in an hour, I fix it up after, took about 3~4 hrs. maybe..?

Today is also April fools day DeviantART fooled me alright. All my icon was changed to the guys in Twilight. I thought my account was hacked at first!! almost went and delete the account.

The weather over this Easter long weekend is going to be so nice, I look forward to enjoy some sun and the warmth.

This is the sketches from last night at Dr. Sketchy. (burlesque style anti-art life drawing session)

I wish I would have brought the bigger sketch book for the gestures warm up. The model was really good, pose/character are right on the money. Haven't had such a enjoyable life drawing session in a long while. The costume got a little kinky, but it was done in a rather tasteful way.

3 costume changes through out the night.

This is my second attempt at speed painting. I like the idea that blossomed from this one, might take it one step further when I have the time.

I don't really have anything too profound to say. What you see on the screen is my brain struggling to fight the one hour limit and panicking the whole time, saying "Oohh...what to do next...what to do next...?!?" Hence all the changes and erasing.

I'm not sure if this serve any purpose at all, and probably really boring to watch, since the end result isn't very finish or even good...
Please leave me comments and suggestion of what I can do with the vids. How to make this fun to watch? ie. edit out chunck of the process, or put audio voice over (but what to say!?) ...ect.

This is my first attempt to do speed sketch. My head is all over the place when I was sketching this! It's a good practice, adds pressure to finish or at least make it somewhat readable in an hour.
It's the process that matters...whatever it may be, however crappy it turned out.

I use a small program "3CH" to generate random topics. It's developed by Bruno Gentile, Hydropix (http://hydropix.blogspot.com/) Amazing artist.

This is done using the regular round brush, turn on brush size sensitivity, and Opacity Jiltter.
I think next time I am going to try out sketchbook pro. I heard the program dose a really good "pen" feel.

I've come to really enjoy drawing with this particular brush.

"soft brush feel"
It's a solid square shape brush, using the following property:
Shape Dynamics
Minimum Diameter: Pen Pressure,
Angle Jillter:Initial Direction,
Other Dynamics:
Flow Jitter: Pen Pressure.

This is better then using simple round brush base, with the square brush, you can create sharp edges and have better mix of curve and straight lines.

For people who live far from those open session life drawing studio, or just simply want to practice, I've found this website, and decided to use it for warm up exercise each morning.
It doesn't feel as good as the real thing, but this is good for study those impossible angles in the real life drawings.

Did some quick shape study for a friend's project. Suppose to be this modern Indian temple/church thingy with community center attached. I don't 'know much about the actual stuff, but it was fun just to create shades and shade, and trying to make them look interesting. She laugh at some of the design, looks like something out of a fantasy film... haha, oh well, being realistic is not part of my job~ :P
